Ram Dass‘s newest release, “To Become Born”, was created through collaboration. It was important to Ram Dass to carry that spirit forward in creating the music video.
Music can carry many meanings depending on the context. I have my story about the music, but every person should have their own story.
~ Ram Dass
This video was given with the direction for the director, Mariana Ros, to tell her story through the music, which represents birth, struggles in life, and being reborn like a phoenix.
The music video was filmed in Hidalgo, Mexico by Mariana Ros and a passionate crew of artists who wanted to express this music visually.
Mariana Ros is a film director in Mexico, she has worked as a publicist for more than 10 years, and now shares her audiovisual vision and all her digital know-how with the world. She is an expert in content creation and is passionate about art and making a mark in everything that she does.

Her inspiration and dedication to this project went beyond our expectations. She had a very clear image on what she wanted and she recreated it with the support of an amazing crew and a wonderful actress, Elys Castro, who was very inspired by the story behind the song and to be part of this project.

Preparing for the release of ‘To Become Born’ we had the opportunity to talk to the director, Mariana Ros, about the making of this music video, and here is what she shared about her artistic representation of the music.
What was the first impression you had when you first listened to ‘To Become Born’?
Mariana: My first impression of the song was that it is very deep and meaningful, and insightful. The melody made me experience a great range of feelings.
Ram Dass wanted you to fully express your vision of this song. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the video?
Mariana: I wanted to project the choice that we all make when we decide to come to this world, and all the difficult stages that we pass through. We are always falling and sometimes we want to give up living, but we stand up again like a phoenix. We learn all about life and keep deciding to be reborn.
The location you chose for the video is incredibly beautiful and visually stunning. What drew you to this location?
Mariana: When I first heard about this video, I wanted to have a unique location that projected the valley of the living and the dead. The red color of the earth has the color of our blood that represents life and death.
What does it mean to you to express music visually?
Mariana: It means a lot of responsibility because what you are hearing and watching has to have the same feeling. It is about creating strong images that complete the music.
What would you like people to experience when watching this video?
Mariana: An introspective moment.
What was the biggest challenge directing this music video?
Mariana: To project the vision that Ram Dass shared with me, that every person gives a unique meaning to this song and video asking themselves if it’s worth all the suffering to become born.
Is there anything you would like to share with the audience about your personal experience with this project?
Mariana: For me, life is worth every time, because it makes me reinvent myself and it’s always worth to become born.
You had a wonderful and passionate team working with you, can you tell us a little about them?
Mariana: The team that made this possible is amazing, they are all young talents that want to make meaningful statements to the world. They are part of a collective that is called “Kids with Guns” and we are always working together to make amazing things and grow up together.
